Tea with the Queen.
We live on a farm near Rotherham
With sheep and cows and such
I’ve a little dog called Danny
I love him so very much.
My name is Alice Entwistle
And I’m only ten years old
Danny’s a Jack Russell terrier
And he has a heart of gold.
One special day around June time
We went to the Queens for tea
My dad, my mom and my brother
And in tow, was little Danny.
A man in posh clothes at the doorway
Said “you can’t take that dog inside”
But me dad handed him some paper
The man’s eyes went open wide!
He gave little Danny a shiny badge
And on it these words you could see
Admit this dog to the party
Signed the Queen! Officially.
I’ve never seen so many people
Butlers, maids and the Queen
We had cucumber sandwiches with no crusts on
Then later some strawberry ice cream.
My mum looked so posh in a brand new dress
And my dad had a real suit as well
Danny was wearing a black bow tie
Even my brother looked swell.
Then a man banged a pole on the floor
Pray silence for her majesty the Queen
The Queen stood up to the podium
The best thing I’ve ever seen.
Her voice were dead posh but kindly
I could swear she were looking at me.
She said we are here this very day
To honour outstanding bravery.
For last Christmas a dastardly robber
Broke into a small village hall
And stole the children’s presents
Where Santa was storing them all.
But our hero attacked him so bravely
And despite suffering terrible pains
He chased the man into a river
Where the police men put him in chains.
I suddenly started to panic
I said “dad she’s talking about Danny
If not then I just have to say
The resemblance is simply uncanny”.
My dad was beaming widely at me
I saw now he had known in advance
He said go on lass take him up there
So I walked him up, in a trance.
Now Danny sat there with his chest out
As proud as proud could be
She touched his shoulders with her shiny sword
Saying “arise my brave Sir Danny”.
