HELP

I can't get an avatar on my profile. I've copied the URL from Photobucket, made sure it's between and [/img] (no spaces) and hit "modify profile" and....nothing! I am going CRAZY. Can someone please help??

Hi sweetie I'm wondering if maybe you have copied the wrong url as there are a few ... you need the http one. In the avatar you don't need the at all, you just paste the link into the avatar space. It's the signature bit you need the brackets. Have a go then get back to me if it still doesn't work .... we'll get there ;D

Is it a .bmp file? I couldn't get those to load and had to convert to a .jpg file. If that's not it then PM me the url and I'll see what I can do.

OK - I'm an even worse case.
I have no clue how to even begin to get an avatar.

I mean not even where to look for one I might want and no idea what to do with it once I do find it.

Is there help for me?

First you need to have a picture that you want to use. There are several places to go but you have to be careful not to swipe other people's pictures without permission. So I make sure it says the picture can be used. Some folks have their own pics on photobucket or flickr. I host mine on one of my blogs at Wordpress and it works fine.

Once you have a picture, you should look at the top of the screen here in the forums. There's a link under the banner that says "profile." Click that. You should see the words "Modify Profile" to the right of your name. Click "Modify Profile."

Go down to the line that says "Avatar" and put the URL in that line. Make sure it's a jpg or jpeg file. I've had problems with png or bmp files. You can PM me or maybe someone else here knows more about it than I do. Let me know if this whole explanation above gets you lost and I'll walk you through it.
