This blasted recession beats me, hands down, On the only cards I can play; I raise my glass to Gordon Brown, And this is what I say; I’m sick to death of your party line, Don’t choke on my piece of pie; Stick my vote where the sun won’t shine, And kiss my arse, goodbye.
A near broken man, I stand at the bar, And pay for my over-priced beer; I’m wondering how we got by so far, As the dole queue, again, draws near; You give my employers the right to rob, Exploit, threaten and sack me; When they won’t pay me, my couple of bob And screw up my P.A.Y.E.
No longer afraid to lose my house And can’t keep my job anyway; A mountain of debt to some ol’ louse, To drag to my dying day; We’ll live on the streets with the sewer rats, As you get fatter at number ten; We intend to oust you political pratts, From the shadow of old Big Ben.
I’d vote for the one that stands before me And gives me back my due; But there is no viable option to see, From a working mans point of view; Is it more bust and pay up with Labour? Or the carving knife of the Tories? Maybe BNP for a racist flavour, With jackboots and Nazi stories?
I can’t wait for the day I’m canvassed by Someone I’ve never met; They’ll knock the front door, get to say hi And this is what they’ll get, I’m sick to death of your party line, Don’t choke on my piece of pie; Stick my vote where the sun won’t shine, And kiss my arse, goodbye.

I think the financial crisis and swine flu and a host of other things are largely just scares to worry the electorates in advanced countries to surrender to some supposed world government who will 'wisely' dictate. But as your poem depicts, Arthur, the politicians' junkets are having the effect of making them suspect; with loss of credibility they will lose power.

Never relinquish a chance to stick it back at them, Arthur!! For all the serious issues you covered, I enjoyed the read. The only common foible missing here was the blatant political "lie". Pity help any door-knocker, canvassing votes. *lol H x

Bravo, my friend. Excellent overview of the situation. It's almost impossible to keep up, much less get ahead right now. I want to be standing beside you when you open that door. After you have your say I'll sick my doggie on them. Honest and hard-hitting. Just like I like them. Exalt. Penny

I take your well made points Arthur but take heart next year we will have David C. in charge of Merry England. Son of a stockbroker, Eton and Oxford and friend to the poor. Hmm, I don’t think so.
