Private Messages, otherwise known as PM's, are a method of directly communicating with another member without the whole forum knowing what you're saying. Say you want to swap phone numbers or whatever privately.
At the very TOP of the forum, in the middle, it says "Check PMs." Go ahead and click it. Notice that the bar changes. You know have the options of going into your Inbox (received messages), Outbox (Sent Messages), going directly into your Modify Profile screen (where you can change your display name, site skin, etc), or viewing the last 50 Recent Posts on the Forums. Just click anything clickable in that bar to take you there.
PM Preferences
Once you are viewing either your Inbox or Outbox, notice that there is a little Hammer/Screwdriver combo that says Preferences. If you click on that you can change if and how you are notified of new Private Messages, either by Email or a Pop-Up Alert box that appears whenever you go to a new page and a PM is waiting for you.
