Okay, so I try not to mix poetry and politics because politics has nothing to do with beauty, generally. However it would be dishonest of me to not say something in this case: DADT is ridiculous, and if you need any more proof that it's an asenine policy, then check this out: rawstory.com/rawreplay/?p=3454Yeah. We're discharging the guy who took out the bad guys at Bagdad International Airport so we could capture the city because he has a boyfriend. But we let felons into the service because enlistment numbers are so low. This is just nuts.

Excellent article in today's WSJ: Straight and gay soldiers have been fighting side by side in Afghanistan, Iraq and beyond without incident. More than 20 of our closest allies have integrated gays into their ranks, including all of NATO except Turkey. American troops work and live with these forces without incident.
Here at home, every government service is integrated, including the paramilitary sections of the CIA that work hand in glove with the armed services. The presence of gays in these organizations is a nonissue. The idea that our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines would have any greater difficulty adjusting is an insult to their professionalism.

"Integrated, without incident" ... how blissful!! I hope that's true. Sadly, US media can only print what is sanctioned by censors - and an awful lot IS censored. Do you know how long it took to gain any justice for the first known female rape victim in the corps? Too long: she killed herself ... and how many have since been hushed up. It's not gay people who'd have problems adjusting - but the so-called "straight" bustards. If it isn't true, poetry has power and I have no qualms taking down politicians and politics in general. They're not mutually exclusive. Fingers crossed that its solid info ... H x

Heh, which part? Yeah, I follow their blog fairly regularly, Penny, and have followed this issue for a long time. SLDN does some good work.
