A Hallows Eve Adventure
by ALB
I ventured up the crooked path, towards the rumored haunted house.
On a dare, my friends all there, but they had chickened out.
I knocked and rang the doorbell, but there was no one home.
I felt a presence watching me, as I stood there all alone.
Then I heard a creaking sound, as the front door opened wide.
So, out of curiosity, I peeked my head inside.
"Hello! Is anyone at home? " I said with cracking voice.
I could have left, right then and there, but tempting was the choice.
So, I took a step inside, my curiosity winning.
The room was dark and musty, but the fun was just beginning.
Cobwebs on the chandelier, were hanging ever still.
Dust was thick on everything, but I held tight to my will.
The old staircase was steep and creaky, with each step I took,
As I cautiously ascended, upstairs for a look.
A hallway long and dreary, with closed doors on each side,
It took me just a minute, to adjust my eyes.
Entering with caution, I opened up the door.
The air was thick and stagnant, and there was something on the floor.
Slowly walking towards it, I heard a breathing sound.
That was when I saw it, moving on the ground.
Inside a canvas cover, it wiggled and it squirmed.
Why I reached out for it? Well, I guess, I'll never learn.
About the time I touched it, I heard a hissing and a screech.
For that canvas cover, I never should have reached.
Something black and furry, leapt out and scratched my face.
With a scream, I turned real fast and down the stairs I raced!
Followed by a shadow black, with frightening, yellow eyes.
I dropped my candy on the floor, as I hauled myself outside.
On the safety of the street, I turned and looked behind.
But nothing was behind me, I thought I'd lost my mind.
Suddenly I heard a purr, as something brushed my feet.
Startled, I looked down and a black kitten, I would greet.
I scooped him up and cuddled, as he licked and loved my face.
So I headed home ,fast as I could, not looking back at the place.
Though I lost my candy, a best friend, I would make.
I named him Spook, it was a fluke, I found him in that scary place.
We celebrate the occasion, every year on Hallows Eve.
When my curiosity scared me good and we were lucky we could leave.
