For the first two or three years of my life, so I am told, I called my mother ‘Day’ which was very confusing and disturbing for my mother and I can see why. The word has absolutely no connection with the word mother whatsoever; also apparently the rest of my vocabulary was fine even advanced for my age. After those infant years the word vanished and it was always mother.
A year ago I was idly surfing the net and came across a site on the Romany Language and found the entry below.
Darro Dowry, bride-price 5 Dav opre "I give upwards" ie read aloud 1.11 Day Mother 1.41 Desrobireja Emancipation from slavery (Romani, from Romanian)
I was so shocked I just sat there staring. As far as I know our family have no connection with the Romany people at all. I assure you this is 100% true, even writing this I get a few shivers. Strange don’t you think?

the world is full of mysteries and some of them will never quite be understood and accepted by society. all we can do, when we encounter such things, is take from the experience what we feel and apply it too those things we know and accept as best we can.
naturally I'm a skeptic, always have been. however there is a deeper part of me that believes in things that defy logic and easy answers. Somewhere between these two parts of my personality, for me, the truth lies.
afterlife? past life? in the end, I think, what matters most is the life we now live. If we want to make it better, we must start now changing it, not wait for good fortune to strike us.
thanks for posting, it really gives us something to think about.

Well Carri babies say all sorts of wierd things, I called vinegar "wingy wack" for a long time, in fact it sort of stuck and my family sometimes call it that now. But if I was to find that, in upper umbongo they used this word for I want my nappy changing, i dont think i would regard it as evidence of re-incarnation or anything. just one of lifes many coincidences.
