The Old Burlap Bunny There once was a burlap bunny, Who lived in my attic upstairs. He sat all alone, In his dark, quiet home Wondering sadly if anyone still cares.
He's nestled away in the corner, With a cobweb covering his head. He sits on a box, Filled up with old socks, Reflecting on the life that he's led.
Then one day things changed for the bunny. Raggedy Ann and Andy came to the attic to stay. He smiled a big smile, Getting eager all the while, For now he had others who'd play.
"How are you?", he asked to the red headed dolls, "I'm so glad that you both moved in!" Their childhood friends, A need for toys that did end, She now had a new life to begin.
They shared their dear home for ages. Each wondering why they were there. Then one day things changed, Their lives were rearranged, A woman entered in from the stairs.
They really didn't know this woman. They had never seen her before. But much to their surprise, There were tears in her eyes, And a small child with her to explore.
And the child ran and grabbed the old bunny. And she grabbed Raggedy Ann and Andy, too. She played and she played, In the attic where she stayed. She didn't care if they were old or brand new.
"These were my toys, my dear child. I kept them here just for you! They so warmed my heart, That I just could not part, So I saved them. What else could I do?"
"I knew she looked familiar!" The burlap bunny squealed to the other toys. A life that was sad, Is now happy and glad, Filled with many more years of new joys!

Beautiful poetry, dear Stacy. The story-line, its rhythm and rhyme all fit together. It's the type of story we like to believe. A very worthy winner in The Children's section. H x

Charming and fun. It flows well and paints a very vivid picture. I read it to my daughter and she agrees. As a matter of fact, now she wants to write a poem about the burlap bunny....(I'll make sure she doesn't forget to credit you ) Take care.

Aww...very sweet, Stacy. You make me want to check out the toys that my mom has kept for my brother and I in storage. I found this piece very inspiring and nostalgic...thanks for sharing! Keep well, Gabi

what a wonderful story.. and told in limericks too.. about how we do grow past our toys yet for reasons we may not understand ourselves, we save a couple of them for years and then one day we find that reason we saved them looking up into our eyes..
love knows no age..
enjoyed alot
