I wrote this last year but felt i couldnt deny you the pleasure of reading it again. Poetic Mania.
Writing a poem is not easy going, weaving words nouns and verbs. Unlike a jigsaw, we use words not pieces. If you write often, your skill increases.
Choosing a style, writing a piece, show your sister, cousin and niece. Showing the butcher, baker and dentist, wondering if you are still compos mentis.
Making mistakes, there is no doubt, squeezing words in, that should be left out, Ripping it up, throwing away, setting it by for another day.
Tearing your hair, chewing the pen, fitting in words again and again. Work in bed, work in the bath, work in class instead of Math.
Work on the toilet, but try not to spoil it, say it out loud in front of a crowd. Thinking of reasons to write of the seasons, write about law or the girl next door.
Writing of love or the heavens above, writing of birds the crow, the dove. Writing of wars and local whores, writing of fighting or football scores.
Write on paper write on a box, write on a packet, your jacket or socks. Write on the glass, write on the ceiling, but do it with class, do it with feeling.
Writing a poem can become an obsession, leading to mania, madness, depression. Don’t give it up or make any concession, it just might, if your lucky, become your profession.

Writing on socks is the one that gets me into the most trouble, when I crawl under tables and start taking off strangers' shoes. Some of them become quite rude.
