Questions
Why did I sell my youth to charlatans Pursue the quest for a perfect body Drawn with slide rule accuracy By the doll makers ~ Why did I reject the bloom that nature had lent me Believing beauty lies in a jar At twenty dollars a throw ~ Why did I pin ball bearings To un-kissed lips Seeking to improve on perfection Because it was the thing to do ~ Why did I think that all music Lay in four chords Played by infantile jesters On phallic guitars ~ Why did I think that salvation Was to be found in the coca leaf Or lay in the juice of poppy milk Tell me old man
My child, why ask one Who believed that free love Would change the world And James T Kirk was the Messiah.

This was so angsty to me. The ending made me think of someone who didn't quite believe in themselves, and this was evidenced by all the "mistakes of life" that was made for society as you penned in the wonderfully crafted verses before it. So often we fall into a devious pattern of trying to conform to what society feels we should be, should look like, should feel, etc. And real beauty comes from the inside when you love yourself enough to be proud of who you are...who God made you to be in His image...no matter what flaws society has instilled in your mind that you have. I'm bookmarking this one so I can exalt it as soon as my button comes back. Incredibly penned and thoroughly enjoyed.

I love the depth of this...then for it to swerev to humour at the end was pure genius, almost like the Worthers Original adverts lol. my girlfriend is a big Trekky she has all the videos of Next Generation so Captain Jean-Luc Picard is her messiah hehe. Brilliant piece melancholy and light!
