My little secret .....
Looking outside a misty glaze of remembrance hides all the grey,
As inside my tree sits snugly, looking beautiful, Victorian and gay;
Twinkling lights illuminating glass baubles, angels and beads,
A hearth wearing beautiful garlands, pretty lights to the dimness feeds.
Reminded of the magical days when snow still dressed the ground,
This wandering mind was taken back to a night when magic was found.
Little pink slippers adorned my feet and my eyes were wide with glee,
Mummy and daddy asleep in their beds, unaware of my childhood spree.
I watched from behind the curtains this whitewashed Christmas eve,
Sleepy eyes observed a sight in the sky they scarcely dared to believe!
Panic arose within my heart for he would pass if I was awake!
He caught my eye and laughed so soft then my hand he came to take.
With the lightest touch he gathered me up wrapped in his arms so tight,
Sat me in his massive sleigh and drove me through the night!
Nothing on earth could tell you what a feeling it was to fly,
If only I could bottle that feeling of my childhood Christmas high ~
Over hills and dales we travelled with speed, yet I never felt cold.
My breath drew patterns in front of my face as I listened to stories of old.
Between the trips down chimney pots and through some modern front doors,
With lightening speed, and magical force Santa went about his chores.
The reindeer jingled, eyes shining bright as we gathered carrots and fruit,
Giving them treats every now and then, spilling sherry right down his suit!
Haha , I‘ll never forget the flush of his cheeks as the night wore on until dawn.
The last house was mine and he tucked me in tight and together we let loose a yawn.
I don’t remember saying goodbye to the wonderful man in bright red
For as soon as I thanked him, sleep warmed my mind when the pillow first touched my head!
Next morning I woke, ran down the stairs, all of the sherry was gone!
He’d left a special reminder for me! A star from the sky that had shone ~
...lit our way from the north to the south, I held it to my heart,
To this day it shines from where it was placed I know it will never depart.
I’ve kept my meeting with Santa a secret, just between him and I.
Some may say I was dreaming but I know it’s true as I look at my star from the sky.
