It's one thing when it happens on TV Or when it's in the newspapers we read But it's a whole new level when it's personal And you see it happening to someone in your family
In a courthouse packed with reporters, the public and police The arguing never halts and the attacks never cease This is not politics This is not a job This is just a game There are those who are hunted And those who take aim But in the end, it is just a game
One small, pathetic-sounding man is all fire and brimstone But in my eyes, he's as politically credible as Fred Flinstone Making accusations and allegations and bogus talk in blinded frustration So sad that this is a man with power in this tiny corner of the nation
It's my mother that he is speaking to Not even speaking to, but yelling For a moment, I disconnect And recede into my thoughts, and dwelling...
Such disrespect Makes me want to disconnect This puny man's arms from his sockets And his head from his neck She didn't take your job And she's not responsible for your debt HOLD YOUR TONGUE NOW before you say something you regret ...Or before I bludgeon you 'til you're dead
Now the rationale returns And I have to bite my tongue until it bleeds So as to prevent myself from saying things That would ruin my mother and me
It's one thing when it's happening to another But try watching and listening to it happen to your own mother

Very strong tone here, Max. I relate to everything you say and it IS very different when it's your family or someone who's close. Though not a politician, my mum holds political positions, (has done all my life) but the garbage that is thrown at her, sticks. These bully people have no respect and they deserve none. Great write: it's also applicable to the people with smaller retaliative voices. H x

Max, it was in my opinion nothing short of miraculous that you explained this dilemma so succinctly AND did it in faultless rhyme. A very impressive achievement that deserves a very rare foggy exalt.

Yes I can relate with this piece. Our politicians have been exposed in spite of their attempts to cover it up. Fiddling their expenses to the tune of thousands and right across the political dived, they were all at it. Most who were caught will not be re-elected but will hang on to the bitter end so as to grab their golden handshake.
There’s a smell about politics that at times becomes nauseating. A very good piece, you do get your views across so well Max Exalt.
