London Streets
Victorian brick and stone Hustled by parasite plastic facades Jig sawed past and present Above the lamplights glare The chimney landscape Stretches east to St Martins in the Fields ~ The street wise cat inspects a waste bin Jade eyed wary Selecting delicacies with gloved talons Satisfaction in Kentucky Fried Chicken The left over reveller tacks across the road A rudderless frigate on an alcoholic sea ~ Yesterday’s news fielded by a lamppost The pictured celebrity scowls at the 3am rain Cloud reinforcements arrive from the west Joyful cascades beat on cracked pavements From the shelter of a Boots doorway The cat surveys the sodium sky

There seems to be an oblique reference to Puss 'n' Boots here. Very clever.

This seems like a bleak commentary on one of the world's most heralded cities. If you take away the reference to "Victorian Brick", this could very well be about New York or Chicago. I love the suble social commentary of this piece, regarding KFC and the celebrity on the paper. The image of a polluted Thams river and a "sodium" (love that word choice) sky is crisp in my mind. Incredible poetry... will exalt when able. -Max ...exalt paid
