This will Mess With Your Head. 3 MEN GO INTO A HOTEL. THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK SAID THE ROOM IS $30.
EACH MAN PAID $10 AND WENT TO THE ROOM. A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK REALIZED THE ROOM WAS ONLY $25
SO HE SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 GUYS' ROOM WITH $5. ON THE WAY THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT $5 EVENLY BETWEEN 3 MEN SO HE GAVE EACH MAN A $1 AND KEPT THE OTHER $2 FOR HIMSELF. THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID $9 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A TOTAL OF $27 ADD THE $2 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = $29. WHERE IS THE OTHER DOLLAR?

well lol i'm sure everyone is gonna look at this like you are suppose to add the two dollars the bellboy kept, but really you are supposed to take it away because they only think they paid $27 when they really paid $25 the other two dollars the bellboy kept and if you add that then it's $27... i hope that makes sense to everyone else lol
- by the way this was hard and it took me FOREVER to figure out lol

The total bill was $25 instead of $30. So, you add $25 + 3 = $28 (the new total the 3 men paid) + $2 (the amt the bellboy took): $28 + $2 = $30.00.

I must be dumb here but they paid $30 and got $3 back so they have now paid $27 plus the $2 dollars the bellboy kept =$29
I know i must be wrong but i cant see how.

Just a little fun in the pudding (sorry, Hyppolita, you can't eat it) ... Ah: that's not an answer, infernus. Mm, ducky. Reply#2 you say: "they only think they paid $27 when they really paid $25" ... and yet the three men really did pay $27 between them. Three men paid $10 each, refunded $1 to $9 ea, a total of $27 ... but you're on the right idea. fairqueen. Reply#3, you say: $25 + $3 = $28 but the men actually paid $27, not $28. Even though you ended up with the right amount, that's working backwards. One word, used inappropriately, changes the way we think about a scenario. Placing the word "add" (the $2 that the bellboy kept) creates a false perception. Three men each paid $10 = $30 total From the $5 refund, Bellboy repaid $3: $1 ea man ($10 - $1) therefore, they each paid $9 x 3 = $27 total From the refund, $2 remains, which *bellboy "kept" (subtracted $2) for himself. The equation is $30 - $3 - $2 = $25, the room's actual cost. i.e: All $$’s accounted for. #Now, Mr Jamie ... please hand back the dollar you stole or a full packet of brownies. H x

That's a good one foggy. I've used this in team training exercises (actually, it was just good fun hearing "why" they'd do what they said). It's funny where we put our priorities when, in this case, everyone has the best chance of benefitting. Next please. H x
