Or perhaps that all Muslim kids carry bombs. This to me was clearly a racist upoload even if the guy comes from Britain. He obviously doesnt travel much if he thinks the particular sesspool he lives in is repeated in ANY town. TPS does have a rule on racism i beleive so it should be applied instantly. It is not racism, it is dissent. The example you use would be religious bigotry, not racism. There are muslim UK citizens, I'm told.

We have OUR opinions guys and we know what UK is and isn't. Don't let one person cause a rift between us here? Please? There's enough hate in the world, we're a little family here. Let's just leave it now? Huggles to all, Kerry xxx

Okay, I am now at the point of deciding which is more important, some fella's outlook written in a poem or banging my head against a moralistic brick wall, I for one will agree to disagree and will not set about upsetting the ethos or straining friendships.
Bill, lets wind our necks back in all the wiser for this incident.
Sir Daniel, if I have said it once I have said it a thousand times, no website can exist without passionate people like you at its helm and I can only apologise for any lethargic members that make you feel this way. Believe me when I say you have all I can give....My support and make sure that I dont fall foul of the three to one posting rule.
It has to be said that a decent person would apologise and take care of the issue after a gentle reminder
Failing that there is little can be done if a website cannot or will not police themselves

Jamie, Nothing is further from my intention than to make you of all people have boiling blood. My actual reply to said poem was polite and also contained a little humour, I made only one comment, thats not a debate. Maybe I'm not a team player, I know I don't always abide by the rules, but in fact I am noted for my tolerance and have in the past argued quite heatedly for the right of members to air their opinions and fought against too much censorship. But when an upload contains what I know to be untruths (lies) and they are bringing the good name of my country into disrepute i feel i have to say something rules or not. I think my comments were about the the poem, IT STUNK. Everyone seems so concerned about the posters rights, ( incidentally one who posts his poems and doesn't reply to others)well maybe a little thought for my rights and other UK citizens on the board, not to have the youth of our country maligned would be in order. I actually welcome criticism of other countries policies such as the war in Iraq etc. But attacks on the actual people of a country is just not on. i wouldn't dream of saying all Americans are obese materialists,or that all the French eat frogs and piss in the streets. it would be insulting, untrue and yes racist or if you wish to split hairs countryist. I would like it noted I have not continued to add to the comments on that post though I have been sorely tempted. It is also a tribute to this site that a debate is in progress that would without doubt have been closed on other sites. I dont particularly wish to add anything further to this other than i feel that TPS has paid insuficient attention to the feelings of the large membership from the UK on TPS and sacrificed the respect due to them on the alter of pseudo protection of free speech that they deny in other areas such as the use of those awful words liable to corrupt our youth as POO.

Two quick points, then I'll shut up.
1) The point of this very website is to promote fellowship. As long as we conform to the TOS and the scale isn't tipped into bashing TPS then I will allow the conversation to continue. I made a new debate board because of this thread. While i would never wish to stifle discussion, it has its place and i don't think it's necessarily in a poetry thread. I would hope the sense of fellowship here would broaden the perspective of its members and allow for enlightened discussion.
2) What has me upset, Foggy, is the reference to Racism. I may not look like it but I am of mixed race. I grew up seeing racism and I know what it is on a personal level. I am also an EEO advisor in one of my many auxiliary roles at work and have a lot of government-funded training in it, so I understand it on a professional level. I stamp it out everywhere I see it and have gotten people fired over it, and I would not allow it in a thread here or at TPS. I don't know how much more straightforeward to put it to you. Someone from your own country who doesn't like the way it is, is a dissenter, nothing more. They're all around me every day. *shrug*
Yours and Arthur's replies to the poem were not overboard, except perhaps the unnecessary slap at a Moderator who doesn't speak the best English herself and may not realize the implications of her comment--the sort of comment moderators give all the time without thinking. That happens when you comment on hundreds of poem a week. Seeing the downward slope the comments were taking, I stepped in before it got out of hand. I'm sorry if you disagree but I think I acted in the best interests of TPS as a whole.
I hate arguing with friends, and I have nothing to say on the subject of poo. *cough*

It's been 4 days and I don't have a comment on my visual prompt woe is me!!! I need to be read hehe cheers for the shout out Arthur, you guys got deep here! I agree with Jamie opinon is opinon, I was expecting a little more fight from the members of TPS about my 9/11 piece and got none, strange how things go sometimes huh. Oh I have a job by the way so I might not be around as much, that makes me real sad (not bitching about it because I need the money). Well I love you guys I hope it aint to long before I get my yobbo ass around these parts hehe.

I admit that when i complained the poem was racist it was a last ditch resort to finding a good reason to remove the poem. It is well know that the UK is noted for its tolerance and racism is not a big problem here. I and most other British people care deeply about our country, we just don't go shouting about it.You will never here the Term "God bless Britain" uttered in our country. We also enjoy moaning about the place, the weather, the taxes, etc etc, its somewhat of a national sport, but for internal consumption only. However when someone makes statements that show my country in a bad light on an international stage (which TPS is) then i guess the bull dog in us emerges. Then we become different beasts, proud of what we are, the BBC, the NHS, our contributions to science and our development of democracy, literature, music, Art and our acceptance of forward looking attitudes such as abortion and gay rights.c etc. Maybe the very fact that we don't constantly shout to the world how great we are makes us all the more angry when others criticise us! My blood boils Jamie, it boils when i hear lies about my country, lies about our NHS and death panels, lies about our social environment, and in this case lies about our young people. The analogy is one of a domestic argument where a man and woman are fighting, the police arrive and both the man and woman jointly fight the police! I understand your views about racism but in our eyes the British are a race, whether black white yellow or whatever. So dont judge us too harshly when we occasionaly flare up in defence of our country, we may not say it much but it is GREAT Britain and we deeply care how others see us. I'm done.

Jay, Im sorry I didnt reply to your post, i have to admit that I had written it off due to lack of entries, I cant imagine why more people dont enter. I love visual prompts. As for you getting a Job, frankly if it means you spending less time here i would prefer you remained unemployed, I know thats a selfish attitude. but Unemployed poet does carry a certain social status dont you think?

I’ve read the poem in question and I confess that I’m in two minds about it. Up to the two last lines I was perfectly happy with it, but those last lines made a statement that is untrue because they more than inferred that the proceeding lines of the poem where an accurate description of the whole country, while nothing could be further from the truth. That is where I agree with the doctor in his protest, statements like that does call for the other side of the argument to be put because for the simple reason is that the last lines in the poem are grossly inaccurate. Having said I am adamantly opposed to any kind of censorship in poetry i.e. I don’t agree with what you are saying but I will defend to the death you’re right to say it. I detest the extent that political correctness has blighted our country; it really has become frankly stupid. An interesting analogy is a poem by one of the Britain’s well loved poets John Betjeman written in 1937 which caused an outcry at the time Just the first stanza’s. Slough Come friendly bombs and fall on Slough! It isn't fit for humans now, There isn't grass to graze a cow. Swarm over, Death!
Come, bombs and blow to smithereens Those air -conditioned, bright canteens, Tinned fruit, tinned meat, tinned milk, tinned beans, Tinned minds, tinned breath.

A most reasonable post Cari, of course Betjeman spoke of one town and not the entire youth of a country. What really amazed me was that they had air-conditioned canteens in 1937, we dont have many with air-conditioning NOW 70 years later.

I WANNA GOOD BITCH!!!!!! God I'm sick of my mother in law interfering, knowing all about everything and generally rubbing me up the wrong way. I made Tony get out of bed last night and walk instead of lying on his back moaning about not feeling better. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR His surgeon told him he had to move about, but no. He lies on his back trapping all the gas that needs releasing and wonders why it aint shifting. So I MADE him walk, he gagged on his tube down his throat and I was the big bad wife/mother/daughter in law but guess what!!!!! It bloody well worked and he's feeling better .... I wont say I TOLD YOU SO ..... fekkin relatives make me sick. Good job blokes dont have babies, bloody hell ..... I feel like a chewed up and spat out rag right now .... If I was a nurse I'd be nurse Ratchet. I'm gonna make him get off his arse tonight too .... K x
