The Other
He thinks not Like me. He believes nothing Which I believe. He looks different From me. His blood – has he any? Does he hope and dream? Does he love and aspire?
No: let's kill him now.
Too many questions, too much thinking. Perhaps we would find a family crying Maybe some latent contribution Or what if we found out, by asking, That we are fast friends? We don't know. We cannot know. It's easier.
And what if he were me?

it's always easier to hate someone you don't understand than try and understand them. That is how hate groups fill their memberships. shame really, as being human is a collective experience in the long run..
No.. lets kill him now
such a strong statement, made by someone who shows both hatred and fear. Why fear? because they fear that if they understand this person, find something in common, they will become just like this person and that would make it so their friends didn't understand them.
were we all but colorblind.. how boring painting would be but how much better our relationships with those around us would be. I myself believe it a worthy trade.
tc my friend.

I can well relate to this, as I served in Ireland during the ‘Troubles’ a religious divide that was exploited by other factions. They were born into division, Protestant and Catholic; what a paradox the one religion that preaches love and tolerance and producing the opposite.
A tight well written piece the covered all the bases, much enjoyed Mat, well done.

Mat, this covers all fields of human conflict from regime change to racism, if only people could sit down and have a pint in the ruptured whippet pub! sigh
